Privacy policy
The app collects nothing. Here is exactly what that means, and how the waitlist works.
Melody Town & The Hush (“Melody Town”) is made by Commotion Labs, Saskatchewan, Canada, for children aged 5 to 10 and their grown-ups.
The app collects no data
Melody Town has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no third-party software development kits. We do not collect, store, share or sell any information about your child or you.
What stays on the device
Players’ names, ages, colours, settings and progress are saved only on the device the app is installed on. They are not sent to us or anyone else. Deleting the app deletes them.
The microphone
In “play on your piano” rounds, Melody Town asks to use the microphone so it can hear which note was played. The sound is analysed on the device as it happens. It is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere. You can turn microphone access off at any time in the iPhone or iPad Settings app; the on-screen keyboard still works.
Notifications
If a grown-up sets practice reminders, they are scheduled on the device. No data is sent to us.
Purchases
Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple. We never see payment details.
Backups and reports
A grown-up can save a backup file of the progress on the device, or share a practice report (as a picture or as text, for example with a parent or a piano teacher) from the Grown-ups area. Both are made on the device and only leave it if the grown-up chooses to share them, using the iPhone or iPad share sheet. We never receive them.
Postcards
A grown-up can choose to share a postcard picture, including postcards from earlier chapters, from the Grown-ups area. Only the picture is shared, and only where the grown-up sends it.
Deleting data
Everything is stored on the device, so you are in control. A grown-up can remove a player in Grown-ups › Players, or start a player’s story over in Grown-ups › Settings. Deleting the app removes everything saved on the device, including any backup files kept only there. We hold no copy, so there is nothing for us to delete.
The website waitlist
Before the app is released, grown-ups can join a waitlist on melodytown.app by typing an email address. This is the only information we collect, and it is collected on the website, never in the app. We use it for one thing: to email you when Melody Town is on the App Store, with a launch discount code. We do not sell or share it, and we do not use it for anything else. Your email is stored with Cloudflare, which hosts the website, together with the date you joined and which form you used. The waitlist is for grown-ups, so please do not ask a child to enter an address. To be removed, or to have your email deleted, write to gideon@commotionlab.com and we will delete it. Each email we send will also say how to stop. The website sets no cookies and has no analytics.
Changes
If we ever change this policy we will update this page and the date above. Because the app collects nothing, any change that would involve collecting data in the app would need a new version of the app and a new review by Apple.
Children’s privacy
Because the app collects nothing from anyone, Melody Town is designed to meet COPPA, Canada’s PIPEDA, GDPR-K and Apple’s Kids Category requirements. The grown-ups area, links to this website and purchases are protected by a grown-ups check.
